Walter L. Alcorn was appointed to NVTC in January 2020 and represents NVTC and its Northern Virginia jurisdictions as an alternate member of the WMATA Board. He is the chair of the NVTC WMATA Committee and serves as a member of the NVTC Executive Committee.

Mr. Alcorn was elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to represent the Hunter Mill District in November 2019, which includes Reston, Vienna, a portion of Tysons and all or part of five Silver Line Metrorail stations and transit station areas.

As a Fairfax County Planning Commissioner, he led the landmark update to the Tysons Comprehensive Plan adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 2010. Then as Hunter Mill Supervisor, he led the recent update to the Reston Comprehensive Plan adopted by the Board in 2023.

In addition, he is chair of the Board of Supervisors Older Adults Committee and also serves on numerous regional boards and commissions including the regional COG Transportation Planning Board and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
