R. Kirk McPike

Kirk McPike was appointed to NVTC in April 2026.  He was elected to serve in the House of Delegates representing the 5th District (parts of Alexandria).  He serves on the House Committees on Finance and Public Safety. He also served as an alternate member of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission during his time on the Alexandria City Council.

Delegate McPike served four years on the Alexandria City Council, where he focused on housing affordability, climate action and sound fiscal policy. During his tenure, he served on numerous boards and commissions, including the COG Board of Directors, the COG Climate, Energy & Environmental Policy Committee, the COG Metro Washington Air Quality Committee, the Alexandria Transportation Commission, the Local Emergency Planning Committee, and the Citizen Corps Council. Prior to his election to the Council, he served on the Alexandria Economic Opportunities Commission and the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee.

Delegate McPike spent more than 13 years as Chief of Staff to a member of the United States House of Representatives, where he worked on a wide range of federal policy issues. He came to Alexandria more than 15 years ago and has been deeply engaged in civic life ever since. He is a graduate of the Sorensen Institute Political Leaders Program at the University of Virginia. Delegate McPike and his husband, Cantor Jason Kaufman, live in Alexandria’s Seminary Hill neighborhood.
