James R. Walkinshaw was appointed to NVTC in January 2020 and serves as a principal member of the VRE Operations Board and was the Operations Board chair for 2023. He also is a member of the NVTC Legislative and Policy Committee.

Mr. Walkinshaw was elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to represent the Braddock District in November 2019. He serves as chair of the Board’s Legislative Committee, chair of the Environmental Committee and vice chair of the Public Safety. James was born and raised in Northern Virginia and has devoted his career to ensuring that the community remains a great place to live, work, learn, and play. During more than a decade of service as chief of staff to Congressman Gerry Connolly, he oversaw all aspects of the Congressman’s office and served as his chief adviser on a host of issues, working closely with state and local officials.

Mr. Walkinshaw graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics in 2005. Supervisor Walkinshaw and his wife, Yvette, live in the Truro neighborhood of Annandale with their son Mateo.
