Alfonso Lopez was appointed to serve on NVTC by the Virginia Speaker of the House in April 2024.

Alfonso Lopez has over 30 years of federal and Virginia legislative experience on issues critical to the people of Northern Virginia. He has served in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2012 and currently represents South Arlington and parts of the City of Alexandria. Prior to 2024, he also represented parts of Fairfax County. As a member of the House of Delegates, Alfonso serves as the chair of the Agriculture, Chesapeake, and Natural Resources Committee. He also serves as a member of the House Commerce & Energy Committee, the Public Safety Committee, and the Communications, Technology & Innovation Committee. Additionally, Delegate Lopez serves on the Virginia Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation, the Coal and Energy Commission, and the State Water Commission.

Prior to his service in the House of Delegates, Alfonso served as the assistant administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration during the Obama Administration. He also served in a Cabinet-level position in then-Governor Kaine’s Administration as the head of Congressional and Federal Relations for Virginia. He also worked as a Senior Policy Advisor for a U.S. Senator. Currently, he is a senior corporate and government relations director at Becker & Poliakoff.

Delegate Lopez and his wife, Sarah Zevin, live in Arlington along the Columbia Pike corridor with their two sons. They have been active in the Arlington community for many years.
